AA for Humanity? – with Bhav Patel

Join me today for the final session in this season of "overheard conversations"

It was still deep winter here when we began this season of Sunday Sessions with a conversation with

about “Taking Beauty Seriously”. Four months later, we’re nearing midsummer, and this is a little reminder of the invitation to our eighth conversation with Bhav Patel which starts in around four hours from now.

I added a voiceover to ‘The Kindness of Strangers: On saints, alcoholics & drivers who give you a lift’, the essay I wrote as an invitation to tonight’s session.
Listen here.

This is a chance to pick up on a thread I’ve been following for a few years, about the relevance of the twelve-step fellowships and their approach to recovery to the wider predicament of our times. A few months ago, Bhav got in touch to share his story of involvement with an organisation whose roots go back to the origins of Alcoholics Anonymous and which shares its DNA, but which has focused on working for peace and reconciliation on a national and international scale. So tonight, we’ll be comparing notes, as two guys who have been wondering about the lessons such work might have for the times around and ahead of us.

As we’ve done throughout this series, there’s an invitation to paid subscribers to join us live on Zoom and bring questions of your own. There will also be a full recording available to paid subscribers – while the first forty minutes will be released publicly on YouTube and elsewhere. You’ll find the details for the Zoom call below the paywall on this post. (And if the subscription cost is an obstacle, but you really want to join us, then just send me a mail and I’ll sort you out with the link.)
