Smiling from Montana while looking at a "tour of America" that never crosses the Mississippi -- I wish I could join you in Chicago, the place where I grew up, the area where my relatives bought a railroad section farm in 1865, supposedly by selling potcheen out the back door of our tiny mercantile. We've still got the farm, but after nearly a century of summers on the farm, winters teaching at Parker school on the north side, no one currently lives in the city. I hope while you're there you'll get a chance to connect with some of the people doing so much work to bring back native planting and restore prairies. Open Lands is an amazing organization, if you have time you might connect with them? https://openlands.org/ See also, Roy Dibik's terrific work that started on the South Side of Chicago tho he's located in southern Wisconsin now: https://www.northwindperennialfarm.com/roy-diblik
Thanks, Charlotte, this put a smile on my face, too! I wonder what would be an apt term for this limited tour and the ground it will cover? Thanks for those suggestions, I shall follow up on them.
It happens domestically too! My aunties in Chicago are always asking if I've seen another girl from our home town who lives in Montana. I have to remind them that Montana is so big, she lives as far away from me as Minneapolis is from Chicago (8 hr drive)!
There's some great rewilding stuff that's happened in Chicago and the midwest the past couple of decades, and it's been mainstreamed all through the suburbs, which is kind of amazing to me. Saw on your other post that you're doing an event with Sterling College too -- amazing folks. My late brother was one of their earliest graduates, and they really kind of saved his life ... have a great tour! Off to pre-order the book ...
standing by in upstate New York to help any way i can! still hoping to catch you in Kingston, i'll look forward to learning more about tour dates when they're available.
Sounds like you have a splendid trip ahead of you Dougald! I just attended a Substack gathering in Toronto last night and happened to meet Peter Limberg who mentioned your visit to me. I'll be in touch with him about details of your upcoming event and hope to connect in person :)
Excited for you amigo as you embark on your “Friendship Tour” in the USA! (Sounds like there might be some merch in the ring of that title;) I haven’t lived there for over 20 years, and the ties of friendship and family is what remains. Elias Crim is your guy in the DC area. 👊🏽

Pencil in 9/12 for that one! Just need to firm up the venue, but the other pieces are in place.

Thanks, Sam! I had a lovely mail from Elias a few weeks back and we've been corresponding about DC possibilities. Grateful for that connection!
will you consider going as far west as Minneapolis/St Paul ?
If you want to do an event in Manitoba, let me know. I know a number of circles in which your voice would land well.
Thanks, Marcus! I don't think I'll make it that far this time around, but may there be a future occasion where this can happen!
I'm forwarding this to friends in NYC and Cambridge, and also Ann Arbor, MI, who might have more connections. See you soon at Ängsbacka!
I'll be in Chicago!
I could possibly be of some help if you've any interest in coming to North Carolina. I'm in Asheville. Best of luck on the tour!
Congratulations and happy travels! Please let us know. Should things change and you come out to the West Coast! We're in California.
